The Danube branch at Tőkés (more commonly known as 'Tőkési-ág' which we could translate into English as Tőkési Danube Branch) is a right-side branch of Little Danube. Its upper section sometimes flows under the ground, elsewhere, forms small lakes or waters the soil - these territories are home to rich vegetation. The Tőkési Branch does not have a spring, it spouts from the earth at the borders of Patonyrét (Potôňske lúky), which makes its water transparent and clear. Gets its river-shape at Csótfa, its depth varies from a few centimeters to 5 meters. It is the only river with such clear water in Slovakia.
The water itself and its surroundings are nature reserve, and are part of the National Nature Reserve since 1993. Tőkési Branch is the habitat of many protected species of animals and plants. Among others you can find the European fire-bellied toad, otter, mute swan, grey heron, Eurasian coot, white stork, little bittern, European honey buzzard, common kingfisher – approximately 80 bird species. Out of these, 70 species nests in this area. Researchers have found representants of 102 insect-species in this area, out of which, belonging to the order of beetles, the bug Dorytomus is a completely new race, it is not yet included in the nomenclature.
The trees of the riverside also show great diversity. Very frequent species are the black poplar, white poplar, crack willow, white willow, common ash, common alder. The shrub common spindle and the climbers old man's beard and ivy are present, while aquatic plants are most commonly respresented by mare's-tail, white lotus, brandy-bottle, Canadian waterweed, whorled water milfoil and common bulrush.
