The hydroelectric power plant was built in the immediate vicinity of the village of Bős in the late 1980s. The primary purpose of this gigantic structure is to repel floods, regulate the riverbed, “tame an ancient element, and command the Danube”. At the same time, the hydroelectric power plant in Bős provides for cca. 8-10 percent of Slovakia's annual electricity production.

Over the last 30 years, there have been plenty of visitors here because they wanted to see this gigantic structure, the huge sluice gates in front of which sailors wait to move on. Guided tours are available at the power plant. By prior arrangement, you can even go down to the turbines and get more detailed information about the plant’s operation.
